Community Day
Community Day is a free, family-friendly event created to connect Lake Havasu families with fun, engaging, and enriching opportunities for their children—both for the summer and throughout the school year. Local clubs, organizations, and community groups will be on-site at the Aquatic Center to showcase a variety of programs and activities designed to educate, inspire, and entertain the youth of our community. Families can explore new interests, discover exciting resources, and learn about opportunities that support their children’s growth and development.
In addition to interactive exhibits and demonstrations, we’ll have raffle drawings throughout the day and a complimentary hot dog lunch starting at 10 AM. Join us for a day of community connection, exploration, and fun!

River Program
The Kids on the Colorado River - River Education Program brings 7th-grade students from the Lake Havasu community to Lake Havasu State Park on the first Tuesday and Wednesday of November to educate and inspire them about the Colorado River and its many resources. This engaging program features a series of outdoor classrooms led by experts and educators from local agencies to share their knowledge and expertise.
Throughout the program, students learn about the ecology and water chemistry of the lake, water safety, first aid and CPR, and the rich history of Lake Havasu, including its connection to the Chemehuevi Tribe. These lessons aim to not only increase students' knowledge of the lake’s environment but also enhance their understanding of safety and recreation on the water.
As part of their education, students embark on a 45-minute boat ride that takes them beneath the iconic London Bridge and around the island. During this scenic journey, they receive a narrated tour highlighting the lake's rich history. Teaching kids about the historical significance of the lake and city helps instill a sense of community pride and connection to their heritage.
Heads up, parents! Keep an eye out for your 7th graders permission slips in October!

Desert Program
The Kids on the Colorado River- Desert Education Program invites 8th-grade students from the Lake Havasu community to explore and learn about the unique desert environment surrounding Lake Havasu. This two-day event on the first Tuesday and Wednesday of March collaborates with key safety and conservation agencies that teach our students about their knowledge of our desert ecosystem. Over 450 eighth graders participate in hands-on outdoor classrooms, where they gain practical skills in desert hiking safety, navigation, first aid, and knowledge of desert wildlife and plant life. By immersing students in these experiences, the program aims to foster a sense of responsibility and a passion for protecting and preserving our desert landscapes.
These eighth grade students also embark on a 40 minute guided hike around the Contact Point Hiking Trail. This hike is led by expert Park Rangers from Arizona State Parks and Trails. As the students hike along the lake they learn about the complex desert habitats that make up our desert ecosystem.
No online sign-ups needed—permission slips go out to your 8th graders in February.
